Domestic Violence and Substance Misuse

This course will enable participants to understand and gain skills to work effectively with clients who present with domestic violence and substance misuse. Participants will explore the behaviours which constitute domestic violence and the ways in which substances are used by both survivor and perpetrator, as well as address domestic violence risk management and safety planning within the context of working with clients with these dual issues. Participants will learn to recognise the need to work at community level with effective screening and signposting on to relevant services.
 

This course has been designed for front line drug and alcohol professionals wishing to improve their response to clients who may be experiencing domestic violence. It is also suitable for professionals in the domestic violence field and professionals from primary and community health, housing, social care, mental health, police and criminal justice and voluntary organisations who wish to raise their general awareness about the dual issues.
